JSMO Celebrates World Standards Day under the Theme “Partnerships for the Goals”
Amman – The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) celebrated World Standards Day 2025 on Tuesday, October 14, under the theme “Partnerships for the Goals.” The event was attended by several dignitaries, representatives from national institutions and universities, as well as experts and specialists in the field.
In her speech during the ceremony, JSMO Director General Eng. Abeer Barakat Al-Zhair emphasized that this year’s theme reflects the importance of integration, cooperation, and effective partnerships among national, regional, and international institutions in achieving sustainable development. She noted that standards are not merely technical documents, but rather a strategic tool for enhancing quality, innovation, trade facilitation, and the protection of consumers and the environment.
Al-Zhair explained that the organization operates within the framework of the Economic Modernization Vision, through the development of Jordanian standards that support priority economic sectors and keep pace with industrial and scientific advancements. These efforts contribute to improving the business environment, stimulating investment, and enabling national industries to access regional and global markets.
She added that since its establishment, the organization has been committed to building an advanced national standardization system based on international best practices. JSMO actively participates in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), representing Jordan in 91 international technical committees, and engages in the exchange of technical and scientific expertise with its global counterparts - enhancing Jordan’s position regionally and internationally.
The celebration also featured a video message from ISO Secretary General, Mr. Sergio Mujica, and a documentary film highlighting the organization’s national role in the fields of standardization, conformity assessment, and metrology.
During the event, the Hashemite University was honored for winning third and fourth place in the International Student Standard Competition, which included more than 600 students from 130 universities around the world - showcasing the creativity and global competitiveness of Jordanian youth.
The ceremony also included a discussion panel titled “The Role of Standards in Supporting Innovation and Creativity for a Sustainable Future,” featuring a group of experts and specialists who discussed the role of standardization in promoting the green economy, innovation, and sustainability.
At the end of the event, Al-Zhair honored the speakers participated in the discussion panel, as well as the Standardization Department at JSMO for its distinguished efforts in developing the national standards.
Al- Zhair affirmed that the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization will continue to promote a culture of quality, excellence, and partnership in support of national economic competitiveness and sustainable development under the wise Hashemite leadership.
