Jordan Hosts the Annual Meetings of the International Intelligent Transport Systems Committee

Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), in cooperation with the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), hosted the annual meetings of the Intelligent Transport Systems Committee (ISO/TC 204) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in Amman.

The five-days meetings brought together more than 150 experts from 19 countries, with over 80 participants attending in person. Representatives from PSUT, JSMO, and the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) also participated in the event.

Dr. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, President of PSUT, stated on Sunday that Jordan’s hosting of this event reflects its strong commitment to the goals of the ISO and its continued investment in developing smart infrastructure. She emphasized the university’s efforts to promote innovation through scientific research and pilot initiatives, aimed at preparing a new generation of leaders in the field of intelligent transport systems. These efforts are guided by the vision of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, whose leadership continues to drive the university toward excellence and achievement.

Dr. Abu Elhaija also expressed the university’s aspiration to strengthen ties with national institutions and the global community, opening new avenues for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and innovation that contribute to building a sustainable future serving both local and international communities.

In a closing speech delivered on behalf of the Director General of JSMO, Eng. Ghaida Al-Sabe, Director of the Standardization Department, emphasized that intelligent transport systems are no longer a luxury, but a pressing necessity. She highlighted their vital role in addressing the challenges of rapid urbanization, environmental stewardship, and the evolving needs of modern societies..

Al-Sabe noted that intelligent transport systems offer innovative and effective solutions to improve quality of life and sustainability, particularly in light of the growing challenges facing the transport sector in Jordan and around the world. She added that Jordan’s hosting of this important event represents a valuable opportunity to build trust, share expertise, and enhance knowledge exchange.

She also pointed out that intelligent transport systems are key pillars of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision, contributing to road safety, improving public services, reducing environmental impact, and positively influencing the overall well-being of citizens.
